For the design of this house, the aim was to develop accommodation, in the vein of a wisp of straw, that is technically very simple, healthy and alive through the materials and techniques used.
As architects, we are convinced that humans need to be able to gather around a fire to warm up. This primal concept leads us to question the logic of the passive standard and to propose other routes that lead to comfort, energy autonomy and “zero-carbon” buildings.
The intention is therefore to tackle the project from the angle of simplicity, in technique, construction, and comfort and to show that it is possible to achieve very low overall primary energy needs by designing a low-energy building.

As an example, annual heating needs are estimated at 41 kWh/(m2a), supplied by a masonry heater (carbon neutral), and the overall primary energy need is estimated at 54 kWh/(m2a).
Electricity consumption is compensated by the progressive purchase of a participating interest in an electricity production cooperative using wind power and biomass.
Finally, the configuration of the terrain used to build several walls against the soil, plus a well-oriented slope, enabled us to design a home according to bioclimatic principles.
The house may not be passive but the results are the same, i.e. minimising primary energy consumption and aiming for energy autonomy.
From a construction point-of-view, each part of the project was chosen based on technical and ecological qualities and their ability to guarantee a healthy interior environment by their very nature, their ability to regulate humidity levels and their thermal capacity (inertia and reduction of temperature differences).
