For a long time, nobody had taken care of this house. A terraced house, typical in style with its main body and two-floor annexe stretching out towards a long garden. The small successive additions had little-by-little darkened the centre of the house. The new owners wanted to regain a comfortable space, filled with light, opening out onto the garden and the street, using half concrete half wood.

This project centred around two key aspects: Adapting the house with the least structural intervention possible and introducing the use of cork as an innovative and living material on the façade. Some building works were done to adapt the house to its new occupants: part of the annex was demolished to open it up to the garden and bring light into the heart of the living room, the roof space was repurposed to create an independent duplex for the children, the annex was transformed into an office space and to create a sightline towards the garden, and finally a separate floor was created for the parents, featuring a bedroom, dressing room and shower room.
Opening up the annex creates a view towards the garden and brings in more daylight. It also makes for a new façade and creates an interplay between the cork and wood, giving the house a contemporary signature.
